Women’s Equality Day... Go Topless

A few months back I picked up a curious flyer. It read in bold letters" “Uncovering the Cover Up.” Gotopless.org was organizing topless protests in 10 U.S. cities. How could I not attend?

Their core gripe is that men can go shirtless anywhere and everywhere, while women cannot. Clearly it violates our 14th Amendment right of equality, as women have been arrested, fined and humiliated for daring to go topless in public. Everyone needs a cause, right?

The protest in Venice Beach, Calif. attracted about 100 people. I would guess about half were women and, of those, maybe 25 were topless. In addition to the organizers, I did see a handful of reporters (I declined) doing their stories without a top! To avoid being hauled off by nearby police, all topless women wore pasties over their nipples. The brilliance was that the pasties were in the shape of… nipples! So they still looked topless, however, everyone had the same bright, enlarged nipples.

After interviews and photos by a swarm of press, the “march” began down the boardwalk. They carried banners and well-made signs and spoke through megaphones. I heard things like, “Breasts are not indecent!” and “Show your breasts” and “Do not objectify these women!” If I squinted, it felt a tiny bit like women’s liberation must have back in the day. But the crowd was admittedly small and very distracting with all those pasties.

I agree that women should be allowed to go topless. I’m sure it would be an adjustment initially, however, in the long term, we’d all find something else to worry about. They timed this protest to build awareness before their big press effort on the steps of the Democratic Convention on August 26. This marks the calendar day Congress declared “Women’s Equality Day” back in 1970. I am curious to see if they get some prime-time coverage and some remarks from our esteemed nominee.

I'm all about equality and

I'm all about equality and women going topless if they want to, but call me old fashioned - I would prefer it if there was some mystery element rather than having the ta-ta's hang out...

and if so..?

if it was allowed, would you go topless? or is it just to state and example..? in europe its not prohibited to go topless (i think), but i have never seen naked girls (and guys) in the city anyways. i guess its a matter of dress code.
funny idea for a flashmob though :)

OH NO ...

Here in New Zealand - we just had the 'boobs on bikes' parade (American porn stars riding topless on motorbikes - through main street in Auckland, during work hours).

There was absolutely nothing 'EQUAL' about this parade.

The difference is when men walk around topless there are not thousands of women lined up filming them with cameras, whooping and high five-ing their mates - with their tongues hanging out.

Even worse were a minority of 'skanks' (and I don't use words like that often), who were interviewed for the news trying to turn this into a 'Feminist issue' and comparing the parade to women breast feeding in public!

Oh ... and our news reader guided viewers to their website to watch 'extended coverage' of the parade. I could not believe it!!!

I have been very pissed off since the parade ...

Got a question about pasties.....

....okay, I get the reason for the name - you paste or put them on with some sort of adhesive. BUT, how do you get 'em off? That's gotta hurt!

Nothing but love

Pasties come in different

varieties. In my experience, the ones I have used (is it just me or does that sound plain wrong?) it's like taking of a band-aid. No, it doesn't tickle, but it doesn't really hurt. A friend of mine does warn to take out nipple rings first if you so happen to have them :).

Guy?

It looks like the hairy chested dude in the last photo is wearing them too. If so, that's support.

:)Taem?

Flowers!

I love the flowers! They're so versatile! You can wear them for a night out on the town, around the house, even for a relaxing game of golf. It's all about the accessories.

Head up!! Boobs Out!!!

I'm topless while writing this. Just my pause for the cause.
